There are four M.S. program specialities: Crop Cultivation and Farming Science, Crop Genetics and Breeding, Ecology and Applied Meteorology. The college has two Ph.D. program specialities: Crop Cultivation and Farming Science and Crop Genetics and Breeding covered by Crop Science, the primary discipline which is a national key subject with postdoctoral exchange station.

Since the foundation, all faculty members of the college have worked hard together, strengthened the combination of related subjects, accelerated the development of subjects in the college, and made great achievements in the aspects of teaching, research and management. Up to “Ninth Five Year Period”, the college has undertaken and accomplished series of key research projects sponsored by the fund of natural science, “863” program fund and other funds from provincial and local governments. The achievements the college has gained were rewarded at the levels of the state, ministry and province. During the past 10 years, 20 works have been come out and more than 800 research papers were published.

The college has set up the network of production—teaching—research—extension in the fields of applied basic science and applied science, established crop physiology, ecology, genetics and breeding laboratory, the key open laboratory sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture, basic agronomic laboratory, the qualified laboratory sponsored by Liaoning Province, and rice breeder’s seed breeding base sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture.

In these years, the college has made the best use of the closely related subjects and rich agricultural resources, emphasized the regional characteristics and research advantage, established step by step the cradle to foster talents meeting the requirements of modern agricultural development of China.

The main research directions of the college are crop cultivation physiology and ecology for super high yield, biotechnology of crop genetics and breeding, crop planting model for high yield and high efficiency and sustained development, theory and practice of rural development, theory of agricultural ecology and basic theory of applied meteorology.

The college also pays attention to academic cooperation and exchange with other universities and institutions at home and abroad. It accepts more than 100 visiting scholars, senior researcher and trainees each year and establishes friendship with other research institutions.
